"Clear-Cut" Knife

$700.00

A through-tang, bushcraft style, damascus knife; made from material found in and inspired by the logged forests near my home in Western Washington.
One of my very favorite things in this world (besides tinkering at the forge obviously), is putzing around the forest. I love the land, it is good.
If you spend enough time wandering though, you inevitably end up seeing places you love cut down. It is a real bummer...But there is also real beauty to be found. Witnessing the succession of new growth after an area is logged is kind of amazing and there is always a wealth of resources left strewn about, ready to be found. My time spent on public forest land, walking around, poking at stuff, and just being a curious little scavenger led to the creation of this knife.

The blade of this knife is forged welded layers of chainsaw bar, steel logging cable, and old chainsaw files. The handle is vacuum stabilized Big Leaf Maple and two stacks of paper trash, both found in clear cuts. The bolster and pommel are made from chainsaw bar.
The belt sheath is made from layers of the same paper trash as in the handle (epoxied and pressed to shape) and deer hide- tanned with the bark of a Western Hemlock tree.

Blade length: 3 ¾"
Overall length: 8 ¼"
